This is our review of Hong Kong Daihanten (Maps), visited in February 2026.
Stepping away from the vibrant streets of Yokohama Chinatown, I found myself drawn into an atmosphere that felt like a spirited Hong Kong night market—full of the sizzling sounds of woks, the fragrance of steamed dumplings, and the laughter of satisfied diners. This was my evening at Hong Kong Daihanten (香港大飯店), one of the most popular dim sum buffet restaurants in Yokohama.
Authentic Hong Kong Dining in the Heart of Yokohama

What makes Hong Kong Daihanten stand out is its concept: an order-style all-you-can-eat experience where you can enjoy authentic Hong Kong dim sum and Cantonese specialties to your heart’s content.
A dim sum chef hailing from Hong Kong prepares delicate dumplings and rich Cantonese dishes that include everything from abalone to shark fin soup, all served fresh at your table. The bright, modern dining space—spanning two floors—feels airy and comfortable, yet the round tables and warm lighting add a welcoming, family-style charm.

Ordering is done via a touchscreen system, and dishes arrive hot and fast. That rhythm of freshly made dim sum coming straight from the kitchen adds an exciting, almost theatrical touch to the meal.
Crispy and Chewy Bliss: The Turnip Cake
Dinner began with a classic Hong Kong-style turnip cake. Golden and fragrant, it gave off an inviting aroma of toasted oil and dried seafood. The outside was perfectly crisp, while the inside was soft, buttery, and gently chewy.
The subtle sweetness of daikon combined with a savory depth from pork lard and seasoning made it delicious even without dipping sauce. When I added a dash of soy sauce and chili oil, it instantly transformed into a dangerously good appetizer that practically begged for a cold beer.
Flavor Adventure: Steamed Beef Tripe with Satay Sauce

Next came the dish that stole the show—steamed beef tripe in satay sauce. The moment it arrived, the air filled with a rich, nutty aroma blending peanuts, spices, and a hint of coconut milk.
Each bite offered a perfect balance of creamy sweetness and gentle heat, while the tripe’s springy texture made it irresistibly addictive. This was one of those dishes that made me crave both rice and beer at the same time—a truly unforgettable highlight of the meal.
Comfort in Every Bite: Steamed Bean Curd Rolls with Oyster Sauce

After the spice and intensity of the satay, the steamed bean curd rolls with oyster sauce brought a soothing calm. The delicate layers of tofu skin wrapped around a flavorful filling of mince, seafood, and vegetables.
As I bit in, the rich oyster sauce—slightly sweet with a deep oceanic flavor—blended beautifully with the tender filling. It wasn’t flashy or bold; rather, it was comforting, elegant, and wonderfully balanced—a dish that grounded the meal.

The Perfect Finale: Pu’er Tea and Cantonese Roast Platter
To complete the experience, a pot of Pu’er tea arrived, with its earthy aroma and light bitterness cutting through the richness of the previous dishes. Then came the grand finale—a Cantonese roast meat platter.
It featured glossy char siu, crispy roast pork, and fragrant roast chicken, perfectly showcasing the restaurant’s craftsmanship (the selection varies daily). The char siu was juicy and spiced just right, while the roast pork delivered that satisfying crackle at first bite.
Alternating between the smoky roasts and the cleansing sip of tea created the perfect rhythm to end the meal on a high note.
Why Hong Kong Daihanten Deserves a Spot on Your Yokohama Food List

For anyone searching for the best dim sum buffet in Yokohama Chinatown, Hong Kong Daihanten is a must-visit. The flow from turnip cake to satay tripe, then to soothing tofu rolls and fragrant roasts, offers a balanced and satisfying taste of Hong Kong without leaving Japan.
It’s an all-you-can-eat experience that never sacrifices authenticity or quality—a place where your appetite and your heart walk out equally full.
