This is our review of “CANDEO HOTELS Nankai Wakayama” (Maps), visited in April 2026.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Wakayama that offers unbeatable access, great views, and a touch of luxury, CANDEO HOTELS Nankai Wakayama should be at the top of your list. Directly connected to Nankai Wakayama-shi Station, this hotel combines convenience with elevated comfort, featuring a stunning sky spa, well-designed rooms, and a breakfast that highlights local flavors. It truly lives up to its concept as a “unique 4-star hotel” that bridges the gap between business and luxury stays.
This time, I stayed in a Queen Room on the 11th floor with a breakfast-included plan. Here’s a detailed look at my experience.
Direct Access from the Station
One of the biggest advantages of CANDEO HOTELS Nankai Wakayama is its location. The hotel is directly connected to Nankai Wakayama-shi Station, making it incredibly convenient—especially if you’re traveling by train. You can reach the hotel almost entirely without getting wet, even on rainy days.

The hotel is also part of the “Kino Wakayama” complex, which includes a library with a Starbucks, a supermarket, and a variety of restaurants. Everything you need—dining, shopping, even relaxing with a book—is right there.
That said, the entrance can be a bit tricky to find at first. There are two main access points: one on the first floor between the Starbucks/library and Daiwa Securities, and another on the second floor near the library entrance. It’s a good idea to allow a little extra time on your first visit.
Lobby on the 11th Floor

The front desk is located on the 11th floor, and stepping out of the elevator, you’re greeted by a spacious and refined lobby.
A standout feature is the crystal-style model of Wakayama Castle, a beautiful decorative piece that reflects the local identity—something CANDEO Hotels incorporates into many of its properties. From the moment you check in, it feels more upscale than a typical business hotel.

CANDEO positions itself as a “4-star hotel” that blends luxury and practicality, and you can really feel that philosophy throughout the property.
Queen Room Comfort and Amenities

I stayed in a Queen Room on the 11th floor, and the moment I entered, I noticed the calm color palette and spotless cleanliness.
The bed, made by Simmons, was exceptionally comfortable. It had just the right firmness to support the body, making it easy to unwind after a day of travel.
The room also features thoughtful amenities: a DeLonghi electric kettle, stylish original cups, and complimentary bottled water with a unique label design. These small touches elevate the overall experience.

Another highlight is the loungewear. Instead of a typical yukata, the hotel provides a separate top-and-bottom set in a chic black-and-gray pattern. It’s comfortable and stylish—and you can wear it to the Sky Spa, which makes the experience even more relaxed.
As for the view, my room overlooked the Kinokawa River and passing trains. At night, the industrial lights and reflections on the water created a surprisingly atmospheric scene. Depending on the room location, you might also get a view of Wakayama Castle.

Sky Spa Experience
The highlight of the stay is undoubtedly the Sky Spa on the 12th floor.
The open-air bath is designed like an infinity spa, seamlessly blending with the view of the Kinokawa River and surrounding landscape. In the men’s bath especially, the view is wide and unobstructed, creating a dramatic and immersive experience.
There’s also a sauna—dry sauna for men and mist sauna for women—which adds to the relaxation.
At night, the atmosphere becomes even more magical. The city lights reflecting on the river create a peaceful, almost otherworldly setting. It’s hard to believe you’re just steps away from a major train station.
Breakfast with Local Flavors

The breakfast buffet focuses on both nutrition and local ingredients, and it’s a great way to start the day.
The standout items for me were Wakayama specialties like umeboshi (pickled plums) and shirasu (whitebait). The umeboshi had a mild, refined acidity that paired perfectly with rice, while the shirasu was fresh and flavorful.
There’s also a good balance of Japanese and Western dishes, so whether you want a hearty breakfast or something lighter, you’ll find plenty of options.

Dining and In-Hotel Options
While the hotel itself only serves breakfast, the connected Kino Wakayama complex offers plenty of dining choices.
You can enjoy fresh seafood at restaurants like Kanhachiya or try local craft beer at Heiwa Sake Store. Everything is within a short walk, making dinner plans effortless.
If you prefer to relax in your room, the hotel also offers “Candeo Delica” near the front desk, where you can purchase local craft beers, wine, and snacks—perfect for a cozy night in.

Tips and Useful Info
Here are a few helpful things to know before your stay:
- Joining “Club Candeo” gives you perks like a best rate guarantee and late checkout until noon (instead of 11:00 AM).
- The hotel does not provide parking for motorcycles, so plan accordingly.
- It’s also popular among fans visiting Wakayama for the anime “Summertime Render” pilgrimage.
