Lakeside Setting and Origin Story
Lake Onneto sits at the western edge of Akan-Mashu National Park, famed for changing hues that shift between five distinct colors depending on weather, season, and sunlight. Nestled right next to the national campground within a primeval forest, Onneto-no-Hotori Kyukeisha was established as a welcoming gathering hub for hikers, campers, and road-trippers to relax.
Originally developed under the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s National Park Enjoyment Project, the facility is operated by Hotori LLC, a local team organized primarily by women from Ashoro Town. Driven by a passion to help travelers immerse themselves in Ashoro’s natural scenery at an unhurried pace, the venue offers warm hospitality alongside light meals rooted in the local community.
The modern timber-framed interior features an inviting lounge area, charging ports, and complimentary Wi-Fi, while outdoor seating and wide panoramic windows open directly onto deep greenery and crisp alpine air.
