This is our review of hale‘aina HOA Shibuya (Maps), visited in December 2025.
Step away from Shibuya’s energetic streets and discover hale‘aina HOA Shibuya (ハレアイナ ホア), a tropical retreat that captures the essence of Hawaiian hospitality. This stylish Hawaiian café and diner offers an authentic island dining experience just minutes from Shibuya Station, where urban life meets resort relaxation.

Originating in Okinawa, hale‘aina HOA opened its Shibuya branch on July 8, 2024, with the goal of bringing everyday Hawaiian comfort food to Tokyo. The name hale‘aina HOA translates to “home-style meal” in Hawaiian—a fitting expression of the restaurant’s concept of “Hawaii in the city.”
Hawaiian Resort Ambience and Creative Interior
The café’s interior feels like a bright, breezy resort. Art by Hawaiian-born artist Kim Sielbeck fills the walls with vibrant, ocean-inspired visuals, creating a light and open atmosphere. With a spacious layout featuring both sofa and counter seating, the restaurant suits a variety of occasions—from casual lunches and dinners to social gatherings and celebrations.

The soft lighting, tropical décor, and relaxed music further enhance the sense of escape, earning positive reviews for its “exceptional openness” and “comfortable usability.” Whether for lunch, dinner, or a cocktail in the evening, hale‘aina HOA Shibuya offers a full-day experience filled with island warmth.
Authentic Hawaiian Menu Highlights
The menu centers around HIBACHI, a Hawaiian island-style BBQ tradition. Diners can enjoy a wide range of Hawaiian classics such as garlic shrimp, loco moco, poke, and acai bowls.
One of the restaurant’s most popular dishes is the Mochiko Combo Plate モチココンボプレート(¥1,200)—featuring two crisp-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside mochiko chicken pieces paired with fresh ahi poke. The combination of sweet-and-savory chicken and spicy-marinated tuna (スパイシーアヒポキ) delivers both visual appeal and rich flavor, earning high praise from guests for its balance and satisfying portions.

Another standout is the Grilled Chicken Combo with Lomi Lomi Salmon グリルチキンコンボ/ロミロミサーモン (¥1,600), which showcases the aroma and flavor of hibachi-grilled chicken complemented by delicately massaged salmon. The mix of herbal freshness, lemon brightness, and smoky depth embodies the true harmony of Hawaiian cuisine.

MALASADA PUFFS and Hawaiian BBQ Course
The restaurant also offers MALASADA PUFFS, a popular dessert inspired by Hawaii’s traditional malasada donuts. Filled with rich cream and featuring a crispy-yet-fluffy texture, these puffs use ingredients sourced from both Okinawa and Hawaii, making them a favorite takeout or dessert choice.
For larger groups, the Hawaiian BBQ course provides a shareable feast of grilled dishes, complete with an all-you-can-drink option—ideal for parties or gatherings looking for a Hawaiian BBQ experience in Shibuya.
