This is our review of ClubMed Tomamu Hokkaido (Maps), visited in December 2025.
The snow crunched under my boots like fresh styrofoam as I stepped out into the Hokkaido dawn, the air so crisp it bit at my lungs with a promise of pure, unfiltered joy. Last winter, we escaped the grind of Tokyo’s fluorescent-lit drudgery to Club Med Tomamu, and it hit us like a powder avalanche: this isn’t just a resort; it’s a place that feeds your body, thrills your adrenaline, and quietly mends your weary spirit.

Getting There & First Impressions
From Tokyo, the journey to Club Med Tomamu feels like a portal to another world – hop a 90-minute flight to New Chitose Airport, then a scenic 2-hour shuttle through snow-draped forests. No rental car hassles; the resort’s transfers are seamless, dropping you right at the ski-in-ski-out base. Check-in unfolded like a warm embrace: G.O.s (Club Med’s genial staff) greeted us with steaming green tea. First impressions? Sprawling across 145 hectares of Tomamu Mountain, the resort buzzes with cozy chalets blending Scandinavian minimalism and Japanese rusticity. The wow factor: gazing out at endless powder from your balcony, realizing everything from lifts to lessons is included.

Foods
Dining is an all-inclusive symphony of Hokkaido’s bounty, where the main restaurant Itara reigns supreme with its expansive buffets transforming three times daily. Breakfast bursts with fluffy tamagoyaki and steaming miso; lunches fuel powder hounds with crispy tonkatsu and tendon tempura, all prepared à la minute by smiling chefs. Dinners elevate to gourmet heights – succulent wagyu yakiniku at specialty spot Hakku (book early via lobby sheets), sashimi platters of local salmon, and international flair like Italian pastas mingling with Japanese rice from dedicated cookers. The variety astounds picky eaters: crab legs, lamb dishes, shumai delights, paired with premium shochu and cocktails at lively bars.

The Nest Bar (aka Zen Bar) offers an adults-only sanctuary from the resort’s lively hum – a stylish retreat with cozy seating, cocktail tables, and panoramic snowy vistas. Here, immerse in guided tastings of premium Japanese whiskies like award-winning Nikka, Suntory Yamazaki, or Hakushu single malts, paired with local sakes and light bites (supplement applies). Knowledgeable bartenders blend tradition and trend with live music performances.

Room
The rooms blend Japanese functionality with cozy alpine charm, offering Superior, Privilege, and family options across buildings like Hidaka (closest to action), Yubari, and Nemuro. Expect spacious layouts (up to 45sqm for families), mountain-view balconies, en-suite bathrooms with bidets, heated floors, fluffy futons, and safes – all warmed by efficient heating for Hokkaido chills.
The “OLIVE GOLD” series from DHC is available in the room. OLIVE GOLD series is a high-moisture skincare line that gently envelops the skin with carefully selected olive-derived ingredients. Among them, “DHC Amenity Multi Wash Liquid” is a mild, low-irritant all-in-one cleanser that can be used for the face, hands, and body. Its fine foam removes impurities while keeping the skin moisturized. “DHC Amenity Body & Hand Milk OG” is a smooth, easy-to-spread moisturizing milk that conditions dry hands and body, leaving them soft, supple, and beautifully radiant.

Shows and Performance
Club Med Tomamu’s theater with nightly magic, transforming post-dinner evenings into vibrant spectacles crafted by multilingual G.O.s – the resort’s energetic staff doubling as performers. Every night the intimate venue hosts high-energy shows blending dance, acrobatics, comedy sketches, and musical numbers inspired by global hits or Hokkaido folklore. Circus-themed extravaganzas feature aerial silks, flips, and synchronized choreography, while family-friendly options include kids’ Mini Club previews.

Ice Village
Nestled in the heart of Hoshino Resorts Tomamu and a few minutes away via shuttle bus, the Ice Village emerges nightly from December to March as a ice-and-snow wonderland, featuring domes illuminated against Hokkaido’s starry skies. Wander translucent track to the iconic Ice Chapel – a seamless ice sanctuary for weddings, glowing with “Ice Blue”. Thrill on the Ice Slide and enjoy a drink on the Ice Bar. After visiting Ice Village, don’t forget to visit the Firefly Street between Hoshino The Tower and Hoshino RISONARE Tomamu.

Indoor wave pool & Snow trekking
Mina-Mina Beach at Hoshino Resorts Tomamu boasts Japan’s largest indoor wave pool (30m x 80m), a tropical oasis heated to over 30°C amid Hokkaido’s icy winters. It is just a 5-minute walk from Club Med Tomamu. Gentle parallel waves alternate with thrilling rough surges every 30 minutes, mimicking ocean swells for surfers, families, and SUP renters. Kids splash in the 30cm-deep toddler pool or roll on giant inflatable cyber wheels; jacuzzis and saunas beckon for relaxation. Glass roof bathes it in natural light, with evening neon glows.
Another highlight is the Snow Trekking. It is a mesmerizing guided adventure across Hokkaido’s powdery expanses, led by charismatic G.O.s. Strap on snowshoes (rented on-site) for 1-hour tours at 10 AM and 2 PM, traversing untouched trails around the 145-hectare resort. Marvel at crystalline forests, spot wildlife tracks, and glide effortlessly – no experience needed, perfect for all levels.

Club Med Tomamu isn’t a vacation; it’s a revelation – where foodies devour high-quality cuisine, adventurers conquer clouds, and all can find happiness in shared laughter.
